This past weekend, the Bartletts and I got to go camping at Lake Malawi. We spent Friday and Saturday night sleeping on the beach. It was absolutly beautiful on the lake. All night we could hear the waves like we were at the ocean. We stayed a little ways down the beach from a hotel, so we walked there in the evenings to eat dinner. The food was pretty good, but there are resteraunts here in Lilongwe that are much better. On Saturday we went on a little boat to a small island a little off shore. We hiked to the top of the island, on top of boulders and through low trees covered with spider webs (this was difficult because I was wearing flip flops and Ryan and Katie were holding Ella). It was an amazing veiw once we got to the top. When we got back down, we went swimming a little in the lake (don't worry I don't have any parasites- we were very careful). There were beautiful little blue fish swimming around us. It was amazing. On Sunday, we went to a great church. The worship was amazing (this was the first church I have been to so far that used percussion) and the people were passionate about Jesus. They had two incredable youth choirs (I got goosebumps listening to one). It was amazing to worship and learn alongside our brothers and sisters in Malawi!

Hi Daughter, It looks like a very nice place to camp. I'm jealous. Shannon and I just got back from spending several days in Portland. I had a good time, but it is nice to be home. We stayed in a really nice hotel. Barak Obama stayed there one night while we were there. I did not get to speak to him unfortunately. I am at work so I need to go. Still haven't heard directly from your Pa, but he is OK as far as I know. They are doing sad work...pulling branches and debris out of people's houses and helping bury the dead. We miss you.
Hi Niece! Aunt Jennifer here! I'm so excited to reading your blog and see what you've been doing!! It sounds like you're having an amazing experience, and I know that God is using you to touch your little students' lives in big ways. I'm so very proud of you - it brings tears to my eyes! You are in my prayers. Love from your 5 cousins and Uncle Chad. We miss you!
Hi Kelsey, It sounds like you are settling in well. Everyone looks healthy and happy. Charisma and I miss you. She wants to come and see you and the Bartlett’s before you come home. We pray for you and that God will continue His good work through you all. Give our love to everyone.
Heavenly and Charisma
P.S. Jamie’s and Van's wedding was amazing. They are still in Kauai on their honeymoon. I will download pictures of everything when they get home.
At the beginning of 2006, my former pastor and his family were called to be missionaries in Malawi, Africa. Ryan and his wife Katie have three daughters: Anna, Lydia, and Ella. Ryan and Katie asked me to come to Malawi to homeschool their two oldest daughters Anna (8) and Lydia (6). I arrived in Lilongwe, Malawi in August 2007, and I will be here until next May. I am so excited about what God is doing as I serve Him along side the Bartlett family in Malawi!
1 Praise God for our brothers and sisters in Malawi. It's such a joy to be here learning and growing with them.
2 Praise God for His awesome provision! I have all of the support I need to go to Cambodia for GSI. Pray for my heart and mind to be prepared for the things the Lord wants to teach me there. Also, pray as I travel, December 28th through January 14th.
3 Pray for our upcoming Women's Conference in Northern Malawi. Jen Willson (the FM missionary in Blantyre, Malawi) will be joining Katie and I as we travel to the north for the three-day conference.
4 Pray for Great Commission Bible School, our guest teachers from the US, and the student-pastors who train here. Our next module begins on January 12th.
5 Pray for the leaders of the Free Methodist Church in Malawi. Pray that God will help them to be strong in Him, and they will spread the good news of Jesus Christ to all people in Malawi.
